DVD Decrypter Shut Down - imgburn is being developed The one and only "DVD Decrypter" is no more, due to unfortunate (and blatantly illegal) issues. It's the same concept as the 321 Studios case... In this case, the creator of DVD Decrypter was presured into backing down. In the 321 Studios case, some ultra-conservative judge who doesn't deserve their seat on the bench was tricked, bribed, duped, conned, or otherwise coerced into believing that DVDXCopy (and the othr related products in the 321 Studios line) waspromoting illegal activity instead of the truth of the matter, which is that it, in fact, protects the right of consumers to make an archival backup copy of any electronic media that they legally purchase, a right which has LONG SINCE been established (and reaffirmed) by the United States Supreme Court and many other countries' similar high courts. ...... » Is it legal to copy DVDs? Despite what Hollywood would have you believe, the simple fact is that making an archival backup with a decrypter tool of any electronic media that you legally purchase is, in fact, completely legal. DVD Decrypter, like many other programs, is completely legal to use to make legitimate backups of your DVDs. (Using DVD Decrypter or any other program to copy a rented DVD is still illegal for obvious reasons.) » Then why is DVD Decrypter gone (DVD Decrypter shut down)? The DVD Decrypter website (dvddecrypter.com) was shut down because the entertainment industry, in particular one organization that has been so far unnamed (most likely the MPAA) threatened the creator, Lightning UK!, with all sorts of unhappy legal problems if he didn't comply. Since he is not able to hire fancy high-priced attorneys, he felt that he had no choice but to give in to the demans of the bullying organization. dvd decrypter was shut down because of legal issues, and it is no longer being developed. imgburn is being developed now because it is seen as 'legal' as a standalone burning program, and will likely improve on features/any bugfixes to the burning program in dvd decrypter Below comes from the official ImgBurn website written by LIGHTNING UK! himself: Quote: " ImgBurn can write most types of CD / DVD images and it supports all the latest writers (including booktype / bitsetting on many of the major ones - i.e. BenQ, LiteOn, NEC, Plextor, Sony). You can even use ImgBurn to erase / format your rewritable media! ImgBurn will try its very best to burn your DVD-Video double layer images using the layer break you've specified in the IFO files, but it can also calculate the best place for you, to save you the trouble. Advanced functionality can be found in context menus that appear when you right click on various bits of the user interface. Can you find them all??!! As I'm sure you all know, DVD Decrypter was shut down due to legal reasons. Not wanting to waste all my hard work, I'd like to introduce you to ImgBurn! - (Say hello ImgBurn) - "Hello" :o) ImgBurn is an enhanced version of the 3.5.4.0 burn engine - and it will continue to get better and better as time goes on. I hope in time you'll grow to like ImgBurn as much as you did DVD Decrypter. If everyone who likes my program donates $2 (or whatever they can afford), I'll be able to pay my legal fees, get more drives working and add more exciting new features! |
